Position Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time, limited duration (a maximum of 40 hours per week for up to 11 weeks during the summer) Extension Communications Student Intern position for the communications and marketing team for Oregon State University's (OSU) Division of Extension and Engagement. The internship will be located onsite in Corvallis, Oregon, with potential for travel statewide accompanying EC professionals.
This internship is part of the OSU Extension Service Internship Program, which offers a rewarding service-learning experience and allows you to gain valuable skills and knowledge that will benefit you in your academic program and in your future career. Our paid internship program is intended to:

The Extension Communications Student Internship may be of interest to students with:
• Academic interests including communications, design, marketing, multimedia and/or leadership, as well as interests that lie within the multi-disciplinary nature of the OSU Extension Service such as agriculture, natural resources and human sciences

Interns can receive credit for their internship experience but must coordinate with their college internship coordinator prior to applying.
As an OSU Extension Communications Student Intern, you will work with our communications and marketing professionals and Extension colleagues to promote the relevance, value and impact of OSU Extension to public audiences. Your work will include creation of informational and marketing materials. Specific projects and formats are flexible depending on your skills, expertise and interests (e.g., writing, multimedia, design, social media or some combination).
This internship will provide experience in the context of professional communications and marketing in an Extension Service/land grant university.

Position Duties:
An Extension Communications Student Intern: Creates digital content - marketing templates, social content, basic multimedia.
Works with professionals to develop Extension educational, public information and/or marketing materials.
Participates in meetings where communication projects and strategies are identified and prioritized, and production/implementation plans are developed.
Contributes to all phases of content development, including gathering information, drafting, review, publication and evaluation. This involves effective communication with both professional communications and marketing colleagues as well as Extension subject-matter experts.
In collaboration with the Extension internship program coordinator, supports the OSU Extension Internship blog, including editing, posting and promoting content developed by fellow interns.
As appropriate, provides advice, consultation or training in an area of communications expertise to student peers, colleagues or Extension employees.Seeks information from mentors and colleagues regarding the history, purpose and mission of the Oregon State University Extension Service and its communications unit.
May identify and develop a new process, template or tool that could be implemented within the unit's current operations. This contribution should provide a substantial addition to the intern's resume as practical and applicable work experience.
Participates in OSU Extension Intern cohort activities, including orientations, check-ins and professional development opportunities.
Maintains a log, blog or journal, as outlined by the OSU Extension Internship Coordinator, documenting internship experiences to complete the required record of internship. Completes and submits record of internship at the conclusion of the internship.

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
• Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
• Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the https://internationalservices.oregonstate.edu/ (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications:
• Strong verbal, written, or multimedia communication skills.
• Good organization and planning skills
• Personal commitment to creating supportive, welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
• Completed their first academic year of college/university level coursework prior to the start of the internship.
• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in spring and fall 2026.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications:
• Experience (academic or previous work) related to communications and/or marketing
• Career interest in communications and/or marketing
Working Conditions / Work Schedule:
The intern will work up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of 11 weeks in the summer.
Housing is not provided.
The primary work location for this position is the OSU Extension Communications office on OSU's campus in Corvallis, Oregon. However, hybrid work may be considered and established through https://hr.oregonstate.edu/flexible-work/flexible-work-arrangement-agreement
Typical work schedule is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in an office environment.
This position may include day and overnight travel connected with official duties. Travel will occur with an EC professional, and travel expenses are covered.
