Position Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Design Intern for the Impact Studio at Oregon State University (OSU).
Impact Studio is where teams of faculty, students, and staff develop and launch bold initiatives that advance Oregon State's strategic plan and improve the university's financial strength.
This internship program is designed to give hands-on experience researching the potential of business initiatives originating from the Oregon State University community. As a student design intern, you will take part in a variety of tasks needed to evaluate the audience needs, market potential, competition, and industry landscape for our initiatives, as well as have opportunities to provide design ideas and perform tasks that will help our department grow overall.

Position Duties:
Student Design Interns will perform the following tasks to develop, evaluate, test, and incubate new initiatives to grow Oregon State University.• Participation and Communication:> Actively contribute as a member of the initiative Core Team- Attend key Core Team meetings- Share and discuss findings and analysis- Participate as a full team member in the initiative process> Communicate with peers, faculty, and Impact Studio staff in a professional manner
• Primary Research:> Develop and analyze surveys using Qualtrics orother tools> Conduct Human Centered Design research including:- Empathy-based observation and interviews- Evaluate user's current experience and develop journey maps- Brainstorm new solutions- Conduct co-design sessions with target users- Prototype and test new solutions> Conduct interviews with industry thought leaders> Host feedback sessions and focus groups
• Secondary Research:> Evaluate and select best data sources with the Oregon State Library Scientist> Identify and triangulate on the relevant market data sources> Conduct competitive research of other organizations and their offerings
• Analysis:> Prepare prioritized user needs analysis and recommended solutions> Conduct market sizing analysis based on secondary and primary sources> Conduct competitive analysis of other organizations and their offerings> Create preliminary financial estimates with the above assumptions
• Flexibility>Approach work as a start-up business; assist in operational and program management needs and provide your ideas to help Impact Studio grow overall.

• Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
• Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
• Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
• High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
• Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
• Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
• Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
• Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the https://internationalservices.oregonstate.edu/ (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications:
• Strong qualitative and quantitative research abilities• Strong communication skills-verbally and in written form• Self-motivated and willing to take initiative• Ability to communicate professionally through email, documents, in person, and over the phone• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred (Special) Qualifications:
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity• Class standing of Junior undergraduate or higher• Demonstrated knowledge of design thinking or product design, business administration• Background in a specific field such as education systems, data analytics, market analysis, and design• Experience and demonstrated success working on self-directed projects• Previous work experience in a technical or business capacity• Knowledge or experience with data visualization tools
