Content and Media Coordinator - Office of University Communications

The student coordinator assists the Office of University Communications by capturing photos, video and stories that highlight campus life and Union’s Christ-centered community. This role assists with social media content, event coverage and special projects while helping share authentic student, faculty and staff experiences that support the work of the office and amplify the voices of the Union community.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Capture short-form video clips and photos around campus for use in social media and marketing materials.
  • Participate in covering university events, including collecting stories and gathering media.
  • Help brainstorm and develop ideas for campaigns that engage prospective students, current students, alumni and campus audiences.
  • Support efforts to monitor trends in student life, higher education and social media to help inform content strategy.
  • Interview students, faculty and staff to gather quotes, stories and content for digital channels.
  • Support special communications projects as assigned, including research, interviews and content development.
  • Represent the Office of University Communications with professionalism, a positive attitude and a commitment to Christ-centered community life.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A belief in and support for the mission and purpose of Union University and the Office of University Communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an interest in storytelling, interviewing or social media.
  • A willingness to learn new tasks, take direction and grow in confidence over time.
  • Creativity, curiosity and a positive attitude when working on assignments or interacting with the campus community.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time responsibly.
  • Dependability and professionalism in meeting deadlines, showing up for assigned shifts and representing the office well.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Comfort approaching and interviewing students, faculty and staff to gather stories or quotes.
  • Experience with photography, videography, social media content creation or writing for classes, student clubs or personal projects.
  • Ability to take initiative, bring ideas to the team and offer insight from a student perspective.
  • Familiarity with basic editing tools (Canva, CapCut, Instagram Edits or similar).
  • Interest in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations or related fields, though all majors are welcome.

 

Training

Training will be ongoing and will include guidance in interviewing, writing short news pieces, capturing social media content, following Union’s style and brand guidelines and using office tools or platforms. Returning students will receive refresher training but will have increased opportunities to take the lead on projects, pitch ideas and support new student workers.
