Summary:
This position delivers limited patient care support services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in providing care to patients and their families. The externship program also provides educational opportunities related to pediatric nursing care.
Responsibilities:
* Provides patient care appropriate for unlicensed personnel in areas as assigned under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN).
* Understands the scope and limitations of the role and only accepts delegated assignments or tasks that are permitted by the Texas Board of Nursing and Children's Health policies.
* Recognizes changes in a patient’s condition and promptly escalates to the licensed RN, and when appropriate, follows the clinical escalation process established in Children’s Health policy.
* Maintains the safety of the unit's environment, equipment, and supplies.
* Participates in the activities of the unit, including meetings, in-services, and continuing education at the direction of the licensed RN, Clinical Educator, or Clinical Manager
Participating Areas:
Acute Care
- General Pediatrics, Inpatient Surgery/Trauma, Renal, Hematology Oncology, Cardiology, GI, Pulmonary, Neuro, Integrated Therapy Unit, etc.
Critical Care
- PICU, Trauma ICU, NICU, Cardiac ICU, Emergency Department
Float Pool:
- Critical Care Float Pool, Acute Care Float Pool, Plano Float Pool
Periop
- CVOR, PACU, Perioperative Services
EDUCATION
* Completion of at least 1 clinical rotation in accredited nursing program Req
* Current enrollment in a bachelors accredited nursing program Req
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements Upon Hire Req
