Maritime Industry Research Fellow

We are seeking a motivated, high-achieving college or graduate student (or recent graduate) for our Summer 2026 Maritime Industry Research Fellowship in Newport, RI. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong interest in maritime sustainability research and the synergy between professional sports and ocean conservation. This is a full-time, paid hourly position with the option to pursue academic credit.

The Fellow will spearhead background research initiatives and the creation of internal project proposals to identify leading opportunities to decarbonize the maritime industry and reduce the environmental footprint of both recreational and commercial boating.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Investigate emerging maritime policies, developments with the International Maritime Organization, and sustainable technologies, distilling findings into professional briefs, memos, and internal presentations.
  • Produce high-quality reports, correspondence, and summaries to support internal organizational learning and strategic development.
  • Engage with organizational partners and synthesize feedback on future investment opportunities in the maritime industry.
  • Identify specific areas of the maritime industry where other organizations are directing their sustainability funding, including where such funding is most lacking.
  • Contribute insights and feedback during team discussions regarding research projects and potential funding opportunities.
  • Identify prospective partners in key sustainability sectors and assist with initial vetting and review.
