Autism Program Coordinator

Location: Davidson, NC  

 

The Autism Society of North Carolina is hiring a Program Coordinator to teach, support, and plan activities for young adults with autism and Asperger’s syndrome in the community and within program center. The Program Coordinator provides informal teaching in a group setting around "adulting". If you're driven to help others thrive and want to be part of a supportive, mission-focused team—this is the role for you.   

 

What You’ll Do:   

  • Organize and facilitate a variety of educational, social, and recreational group activities for program members with a strong emphasis on health, wellness, and physical exercise. 
  • Help develop and provide group and individual support and teaching in a variety of community-based activities.  
  • Provide opportunities for each member of program to shine and develop self-confidence and improve their positive outlook and motivation to continue moving forward through increased exposure to and involvement in a variety of community and in house activities. 
  • Assist Director in planning and facilitating educational groups; Utilize tools and resources including visual supports, video clips of a variety of social situations, modeling and role playing as a means to teach skills. 
  • Work to meet the personal outcomes of individuals and keep appropriate documentation as instructed.  Maintain confidentiality of all members. Ensure that services and policies comply with all regulations and requirements. 

   

What We’re Looking For:  

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Human Services but not required 
  • Experience with adolescents or young adults with I/DD, ASD preferred 
  • Valid driver’s license, safe driving record, acceptable level of auto liability insurance   
  • Based in or near the Davidson area and willing to travel locally   
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills   
  • Outgoing and natural leader/mentor who thrives in a collaborative environment   
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and frequently work evenings and weekends, based on the needs of the program. 
  • Certification in Therapeutic Recreation preferred but not required
