Technology Specialist

The City of Bowie is seeking a Technology Specialist to provide frontline technical support to City staff and assist in maintaining a reliable, secure, and user-focused technology environment. This position supports end users across all departments, resolves day-to-day technology issues, and works closely with Systems Administrators to support the City’s network and infrastructure operations. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, technically curious, and enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced public service environment.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Computer Technology or a related field
  • Three years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Experience providing end-usertechnical support for Windows operating systems and standard business software

Certain combinations of education, training,and experience may be considered in lieu of the above qualifications.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of IT supportexperience, including at least one year supporting Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft WindowsOS troubleshooting
  • Experience installing, configuring, and supporting desktophardware, printers, and peripherals
  • Familiarity with MicrosoftOffice and Microsoft365 applications includingOutlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Basic understanding of ITIL principles or willingness to learn (ITIL Foundations certification a plus)
  • Experience with ActiveDirectory and WindowsServer environments
  • Knowledge of iOS and City-issued iPhones
  • Prior help desk or service desk experience
  • Experience writing standardoperating procedures and end-user documentation
  • Familiarity with IT ticketing or issue trackingsystems
  • A+ and/or Security+CE certifications preferred
  • Strong customer serviceand communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Ability to work independently, managepriorities, and organizework effectively
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Tier 1 technical supportfor City staff, including hardware,software, SaaS applications, and mobile devices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in person, by phone, or remotely
  • Respond to user requests via phone and email and maintain positiveworking relationships with end users
  • Assist with user training and creation of technical documentation
  • Maintain, upgrade, and evaluateIT hardware, includingcoordinating repair or replacement
  • Communicate with vendorsto order equipment, schedule service, and follow up on support requests
  • Assist with basic LAN connectivity troubleshooting
  • Participate in on-callrotations and providesupport during emergencyor after-hours situations as needed
  • Must be availablefor scheduled on-callsupport (additional compensation provided)
  • May be requiredto travel offsite to resolve issues that cannot be handled remotely
  • May be required to work extended hours in supportof Emergency Operations Center activities

 

SALARY: $62,508
