CAA Digital Accessibility Assistant
Job Summary
The Digital Accessibility Assistant supports the College of the Arts & Architecture by helping improve digital accessibility across the Peck School of the Arts and School of Architecture & Urban Planning websites. Working closely with the Marketing & Communications Lead and Multimedia Specialist, this role focuses on evaluating existing web content, identifying accessibility barriers, and assisting with practical solutions that improve usability and compliance for a wide range of users.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented student interested in digital accessibility, inclusive design, web standards, and user-centered communication.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Review and assess web content on PSOA and SARUP websites for accessibility issues, including images, PDFs, and embedded media.
- Assist with evaluating and investigating solutions for PDF documents that are non-compliant with accessibility standards.
- Write clear, accurate alt text for images in collaboration with the Multimedia Specialist and Marketing & Communications Lead.
- Optimize images for appropriate size, resolution, and file type to improve accessibility and site performance.
- Occasionally support faculty and staff by providing guidance or assistance with accessibility-related updates to digital content.
- Document findings, workflows, and recommendations to support ongoing accessibility efforts.
QualificationsÂ
- Strong attention to detail and interest in digital accessibility and inclusive design.
- Familiarity with basic web content principles, file formats, and image optimization (training provided as needed).
- Ability to learn and apply accessibility standards and best practices (e.g., alt text, document structure).
- Clear written communication skills and comfort collaborating with faculty, staff, and student workers.
- Ability to manage tasks independently while working within a defined project timeline.
Hours/Scheduling
- Approximate hours per week: 5
- Part-Time, Temporary
- You will have a set schedule of both in-person and remote hours
- This is a short-term, project-based position through June 2026
