Position Title:  Woodshop Assistant – Art/Architecture Department

Semester/Year: 2026 Spring Semester

Total Positions Available: 3

Supervisor: Steve Blanchard/ Jessica McGuigan     

Pay rate: $16 per hour 

Start Date: February 13, 2026

End Date: May 17, 2026

 

Description

 

The Student Woodshop Assistant will work under the supervision of the Wood Shop Manager and will assist in maintaining and supervising the wood shop located in the Elliott Studio Arts Building.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist professors and students in proper use of all equipment as well as follow all safety precautions and guidelines. 
  • Perform maintenance and cleaning tasks to keep the wood shop in good running order.
  • Supervise 3D students during evening hours. 

 

Qualifications

  • Student must have taken ARTS 115 (Three-Dimensional Design) and be familiar with the department curriculum. 
  • Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative following guidelines.
  • Possess an excellent attendance record.
  • Ability to maintain focus for extended periods of time in the manner of a lifeguard.
  • Display good judgment, reliability and maturity at all times.
  • Strong customer service orientation, positive, helpful, resourceful, dependable.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to unique social, cultural and economic circumstances of students. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Familiar with HWS campus, programs, services, departments.
