Hiring range: $57,262.40 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour). Starting rate will depend on experience, education, and qualifications. Advancement opportunities exist for individuals motivated to move up within Anoka County.

Position Description

The Anoka County Job Training Center's mission is to contribute to the success of individuals and employers through workforce development services. We are seeking a dedicated Senior Career Counselor to help individuals in employment and training programs who are unemployed or underemployed find meaningful job opportunities.

As a Senior Career Counselor, you will work within various Employment Services programs, including Dislocated Worker (DW) Program, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult Program, Youth Program, Career Pathways/Pathways to Prosperity (P2P), and the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP). This role is essential in connecting our clients with the resources they need to succeed. Ideal candidates have strong leadership skills, case management experience, and knowledge of program operations.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. Interviews will take place the week of 02/09/2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. 

 

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $57,262.40 to $67,288.00 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour).
  • Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30: $57,262.40 to $77,292.80 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at Blaine Human Service Center, located at 1201 89th Ave NE, Blaine, MN 55434.
  • This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Senior Career Counselor.

  • Conduct career counseling, assessments, career exploration, employment goal setting and development of employment plans.
  • Provide case management services for individuals with employment barriers, helping them access training and employment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic case records, documenting participant interactions and progress.
  • Coordinate special programs including classroom training, special needs counseling and adult basic education.
  • Conduct group workshops on a variety of topics, including writing resumes and cover letters, successful job interviewing, using employment databases and career development resources.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication with participants to encourage progress and provide motivation towards achieving their goals.
  • Provide instruction on job search strategies, including offering job leads, resume writing assistance, interview preparation, and application support. 
  • Monitor program compliance for employment services programs.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to less experienced team members.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of job-related experience
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Communications or related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with State of Minnesota’s Workforce One (WF1)
  • Knowledge of workforce development programs including:
    • Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult Program
    • Dislocated Worker (DW)
    • Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP)
    • Youth Program
    • Career Pathways programs (P2P)

 

Physical Demands and Work Conditions

  • Standard office environment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers.
  • Ability to see colors, shades, and brightness
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
  • Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work
  • Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs.
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment
  • Occasional travel to other county work sites as needed.
  • Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
