Job Summary

The Civil Engineer I is responsible for applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks, exercises limited judgment on details of work and acquire an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD.
  • Collect data and gather information.
  • Assist with proposals to provide professional services.
  • Prepare as-built record drawings.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Observe construction activities.
  • Manage time wisely, and requests assistance when direction is needed.
  • Receive close supervision on assignments.
  • Receive guidance, when necessary, on unconventional or complex problems.
  • Travel to and from work at remote project sites for extended durations. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication to assist staff and occasionally clients and contractors.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to travel and perform field work in adverse arctic conditions.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner. 
  • Skilled in facilitating public meetings (public speaking).
  • Knowledge of civil construction techniques and sequencing.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. 
  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam preferred. 
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS is preferred.
