Talent Search Mentor/Tutor
Position is contracted for the 2025 – 2026 academic year. This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding.
Reports to the Director of the Talent Search Seguin Program.
Responsible for providing individual and/or group tutoring to middle and high school students enrolled in The Talent Search Seguin Program (Seguin High School, A J Briesemeister Middle School, Barnes Middle School)
Tutors work to enhance students' subject understanding and foster meta-learning by teaching effective learning and study strategies. They also serve as positive role models, showing passion and commitment while supporting and empowering college-bound middle and high school students with the potential for higher education success.

- Barnes Middle School (1539 Joe Carrillo Blvd, Seguin, TX 78155)
- Mandatory Training 1 week prior to starting (Texas State University San Marcos Campus)
Duties
- Provide academic tutoring (individual and small group) to middle and high school students
- Tutor and assist students with daily homework and assignments.
- Participate in tutor training sessions, team meetings, and additional workshops as arranged.
- Be prompt, available and prepared for all tutoring time commitments.
- Maintain up-to-date records of tutoring contacts and submit records to Director weekly.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor to student participants.
- Assist with additional duties as needed.

Work Schedule
- Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Evenings and weekends as needed
Required Qualifications
- Must be available to travel to all three target schools.
- Sophomore standing or above with 3.0 overall GPA.
- Academically proficient and able to tutor at the middle and high school level for all levels of English/Math/Science required.
- Demonstrated motivational and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Junior standing or above with 3.0 overall GPA.
- Experience tutoring one of the above-named subjects preferred.
- Experience working with middle school and high school students preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience tutoring on a variety of subjects.
Employee Evaluation Process
- Weekly and monthly (informal)
- End of each Semester (formal) facilitated by Program Director.
Pay Rate Determination
- The pay rate is determined in accordance with the University Pay Plan : Office of Human Resources : Texas State University (txst.edu)
- This is a grant-funded position, and as such not subject to annual increases in salary.
