Position Title: DEAP Peer Mentor

Position Type: part-time hour (Summer 2026 - Spring 2027)

Mentor Code: 1-16

Training:  3 Day Summer Training (Aug 5-7)

Freshman Pinning Ceremony (TBA)

Position Begins: On training day.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The role of a DEAP Peer Mentor is to support first year DEAP scholars in their campus/community engagement and academic goals as an IUI student while actively contributing to the daily goals and efforts of the DEAP program in and outside of the office. Each mentor will be assigned first year students to assist in their matriculation and adjustment to the expectation of higher education. In addition, mentors will need to be committed to building a relationship with their mentees. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Have one semester, or more, of ACTIVE participation in DEAP.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7.
  • Have a sophomore, junior, or senior class standing.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong group dynamics and ability to lead group activities and presentations.
  • Knowledge of IUI campus resources.
  • Available to attend all training sessions and staff meetings.

 Peer Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Attending All Summer Training Sessions (*Aug 5-7, 2026)
  • Attending the DEAP Freshman Pinning Ceremony (TBA in August 2026)
  • Working 10 –14 hours per week in the DEAP office*
  • Providing one-on-on mentoring meetings.
  • Provide support, and resource referrals for first-year students.
  • Plan and implement monthly workshops that focus on 1st Year students' experience.
  • Input meeting notes into AdRx system
  • Attend monthly peer mentor and supervisor meetings.
  • Attend monthly staff meeting
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of DEAP programming.
  • Other duties assigned.
