Substation Electrical Design Engineer

Hive Power Engineering LLC (HIVE) provides engineering design and consulting services primarily in Transmission and Distribution sector (13.8kV - 500kV). Our core engineering services consist of substation design, protection and control, relay settings, renewables, power storage, feasibility studies, power system studies and research.

We provide entire spectrum of services from P&C, physical electrical design, relay settings to and relay testing. Majority of the responsibilities will include producing one lines, three lines, schematic diagrams, layouts, 3D substation design, SCADA equipment, point assignment sheets, front views, BOM, and wiring (as needed).

Entry/Junior level candidates are welcome but expected to have core electrical and power systems classes taken alerady. Any of the experience below is a plus.

More experienced protection and control engineers (P&C) in this role are expected to have an expertise for at least 3 to 5 years for majority of the following;

• Ability to develop substation design protection and control drawings such as one lines, relay and control schematics
• Ability to adapt and understand different utility standards
• Ability to read, understand, edit and develop variety of custom logic.
• Relay settings experience
• AccSELlerator and relay test experience
• Familiarity with variety of protections schemes for lines, transformers, Capbank (fused/fuseless/multi-string), bus, breaker, communication aided protection, step distance, pilot protection, etc.
• Orion LX / RTAC programming
• PRC / NERC / FERC / compliance

Additional experience that would be a plus but not required as follows:

• Physical Electrical layouts, sections, foundation/structural design
• Specifications, BOM, procurement, bidding process etc.
• Physical Electrical Studies: battery sizing, bus sizing, illumination, lightning, grounding, arc flash etc.
