SEO + Content Marketing Intern (Shopify) | 10 to 15 hrs/week | Paid

Pay: $22 to $26 per hour (based on experience, writing ability, and reliability)

Hours: 10 to 15 hours/week during the semester (flexible schedule)

Duration: 12 weeks minimum, option to extend

Calyx Containers is looking for a motivated and talented SEO and Content Marketing Intern to join our growing team. Your primary responsibility is to help improve organic search performance by executing on-page SEO, content creation, and technical SEO hygiene across our Shopify website. The right candidate is someone who is organized, highly self-motivated, and comfortable working from a clear weekly checklist. You will collaborate closely with our leadership and marketing team to research keywords, optimize key pages, publish and refresh blog content, strengthen internal linking, and track results in Google Search Console and Semrush. This role requires strong writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and a consistent weekly output cadence.

This position is ideal for someone early in their career who is curious, detail-oriented, and excited to learn how SEO drives real revenue in B2B. You will get hands-on experience with Shopify SEO, content strategy, and analytics, and you will build a portfolio of live work that impacts inbound lead flow. We are looking for someone who is passionate about positioning Calyx as the performance standard in cannabis packaging, and who takes pride in shipping high-quality work every week.

Our co-founders first started this as a packaging design company (well, really started as a stuffed animal bong bag company…) and moved to Utah to build one of the most advanced digital printing innovation centers in the country. We have expanded into labels, flexible packaging, and premium rigid packaging, and we recently launched a new cultivation technology called Calyx Cure that is already taking the industry by storm. We are building the next era of cannabis packaging and we need a sharp, hungry intern to help us win attention and demand through organic search.

This position is required to be in-person at the Calyx Spaceship (our manufacturing facility & HQ) in Salt Lake City, UT.

Responsibilities:

• Shopify SEO execution
  • Optimize priority Shopify collection and product pages: titles, meta descriptions, headings, URL structure, image alt text, and on-page copy.
  • Improve internal linking across product pages, collections, blog posts, and key landing pages.
  • Implement basic schema and structured data improvements where applicable (with guidance).
  • Identify and fix common Shopify SEO issues: duplicate content, thin pages, indexing problems, broken links, redirect chains, slow pages, and image bloat.
  • Partner with our team to create and maintain an SEO backlog, ranked by impact.
• Content that drives leads
  • Create SEO content briefs that include: target keyword, search intent, outline, FAQs, internal links to add, and CTA plan.
  • Draft or refresh content that supports revenue pages (B2B buyer questions, comparisons, compliance-oriented explainers, printing, materials, storage/shelf life).
  • Use ChatGPT Atlas to accelerate drafting and research, then edit and fact-check for accuracy and clarity.
• Reporting and accountability
  • Track progress in a simple dashboard: pages updated, content published, internal links added, keyword movements, and organic leads.
  • Provide a short weekly update: what shipped, what moved, what is blocked, next week plan.

What success looks like (first 30 to 90 days):

• Priority pages upgraded with strong on-page SEO and clearer conversion paths (quote, sample request).
• Consistent cadence established: page optimizations plus content shipped every week.
• Early lift in Search Console impressions and clicks on target topics.
• Clean, prioritized SEO backlog maintained and executed.

Qualifications:

• Strong desire to learn and launch your career in Marketing.
• Strong writing and editing skills with high attention to detail.
• Organized and consistent. You can follow a checklist and ship every week.
• Comfortable learning tools quickly and working independently.
• Able to fact-check claims, especially around regulated industries.
• Basic SEO knowledge (student projects count).
• Familiarity with Shopify admin.
• Basic HTML/CSS curiosity
• Experience with Semrush, GA4, or Search Console.
• Self-starter with the ability to self-motivate in a fast-paced start-up environment.
