Are you passionate about farming, plants, and working outdoors? Lavender Hill Farm, Michigan’s largest lavender farm, is seeking an Agricultural Intern to assist with the planting, harvesting, processing, and care of our plants and gardens. This hands-on internship is ideal for students or recent graduates looking to gain real-world experience in sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and agritourism. Interns work closely with the business owners and Agricultural Director, gaining valuable experience that directly impacts daily farm operations.

Lavender Hill Farm is a premier agritourism destination in Northern Michigan, known for its 13,000 plants, guided tours, concert series, events, and our farmhouse boutique. Our Certified Naturally Grown farm offers a hands-on, collaborative work environment where team members across all departments work closely with leadership, making a real impact on daily operations and guest experiences, while surrounded by fields of lavender.

What You’ll Do

As an Agricultural Intern, you will:

• Plant, harvest, and process lavender, sunflowers, and cut flowers.
• Maintain gardens, greenhouses, and landscapes to keep the farm beautiful.
• Assist with essential oil production through steam distillation.
• Use and maintain farm tools and equipment (shears, hedge trimmers, sickles, etc.)
• Responsibly operate golf carts, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, string cutters as needed.
• Assist with guided golf cart tours when needed.
• Assist or teach plant classes (teaching optional).
• Facilitate plant sales and educate guests on plant care and uses.
• Guide and instruct guests through cut flower harvest process.
• Maintain a clean workspace: tools, greenhouses, golf carts, etc.
• Help within multiple departments when needed.
• Work outdoors rain or shine.

What We Are Looking For

• A student or recent graduate in Agriculture, Horticulture, Landscaping, or a related field.
• Knowledge of plant care, willingness to learn and educate, and attention to detail.
• Confident working independently and within a team setting.
• Someone who enjoys outdoor work and being up close with plants and dirt.
• Strong work ethic and conscientiousness in what they do.
• Ability to lift, bend, and handle the physical demands of farm work.
• Previous farm, garden, or nursery experience is preferred, but not required.
• Experience specifically with flowers, herbs, or sustainable agriculture is a plus!
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Internship Details

• Location: Lavender Hill Farm, Boyne City, MI
• Duration: May through mid-August (potential extension through October)
• Schedule: Full-time, including weekends, with flexibility for part-time roles
• Compensation: Paid internship with limited housing available
• Ideal for: Students and/or recent graduates in Agricultural, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or related fields
