Summary
The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is seeking a Financial Management Analyst to ensure the efficient and compliant execution of financial resources. This role involves managing programs and processes, assessing reports, and evaluating operations to improve financial management.
Note: This is NOT a remote work opportunity. Students may apply up to three months prior to completing their academic requirements, but current transcripts are required.
Duties
Manage programs and processes to ensure efficient and compliant execution of financial resources.
Prepare and deliver briefings, training sessions, and strategy sessions to influence managers and accept findings.
Assess a variety of reports from internal and external sources to develop formal recommendations for management.
Evaluate operations, policies, procedures, and internal controls to prevent and detect deficiencies.
Receive special projects aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of financial management operations.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
Must be suitable for Federal Employment and registered for Selective Service (if applicable).
Must undergo a background investigation and be able to obtain and maintain a favorable security clearance.
Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Must obtain and maintain a Level 2 DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification.
Qualifications
This position requires a related financial degree (e.g., Finance, Accounting) and/or related financial experience. In addition, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level is generally required.
For GS-05: Three years of generalized experience, with one year equivalent to processing financial/accounting transactions.
For GS-07: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level, including applying financial principles, gathering data, and researching policies to resolve common issues.
For GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, including researching and interpreting financial regulations, analyzing reports to identify discrepancies, and resolving financial issues.
For GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level, including analyzing financial operations, recommending process improvements, and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
Volunteer and unpaid experience that builds critical competencies is qualifying and will be credited. Veteran's preference does not apply under this Direct Hire Authority.
Education
You may substitute education for the specialized experience requirement at various grade levels.
For GS-05: Four full years of undergraduate education.
For GS-07: One full year of graduate-level education or a Bachelor's Degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).
For GS-09: A Master’s degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education.
For GS-11: A Ph.D. or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
