Paralegal
Title: Paralegal to work on high-profile cases at a busy criminal and civil rights law firm in New York City
Compensation: Annual Salary ranges from $65,000-$78,000 depending on qualifications; up to $400/month medical reimbursement; paid holidays and time off; discretionary performance bonuses up to $15,000 per year.
ZMO Law PLLC is seeking a hard-working, detail-oriented, self-sufficient top college graduate as a full-time paralegal, investigator, personal assistant, and calendar clerk. An interest in criminal defense, attention to detail, and flawless English-language skills are required. The position is permanent, but the successful candidate likely will be planning to go to law school in the next few years. We ask for a two-year commitment.
This job is difficult, demanding and fast-paced. ZMO Law clients include people accused of international narcotics trafficking, homicide, organized crime, sex offenses (including child pornography) and fraud in both state and federal courts in New York. We also handle civil rights cases including wrongful convictions and represent victims of sexual crimes in civil actions. For more information, please review www.zmolaw.com.
Paralegal duties include supporting three attorneys in all aspects of case management such as reviewing discovery, drafting letters, scheduling appointments, proofreading legal papers, purchasing supplies (and, occasionally, lunch), and preparing exhibits for trial. An undergraduate degree or significant law firm experience is required. The successful applicant must be persistent, meticulous, discreet, and able to work independently. You should be able to demonstrate an interest in and sensitivity to the rights of people accused of serious crimes and a desire to learn about criminal law and procedure. You will work with a team of professionals dedicated to protecting the rights of our clients.
The successful candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word and savvy with social media, Excel, Google Workspace, and information technology in general. Knowledge of Clio, Cellebrite, DNA genotyping, and the difference between a DEA-6, a DD-5, and an FBI-302 would be a huge plus. You should have strong research skills, including the ability to use artificial intelligence services to generate, analyze, and present complex information relevant to our cases. This job will not be replaced by AI, but has become more productive as a result of large language models, generative search, automatic transcription and translation, and other recently available tools.
Foreign language ability (Spanish, Russian, or Chinese) is strongly preferred.
The position will start between March 1 and May 30, 2026, with intensive on-the-job training. All work will be done in-person at our midtown offices near Grand Central Terminal. There may be an option for one day per week remote after the candidate is fully trained and integrated into the practice.
