Neurosurgery Clinic - Student Clerk
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a part-time Student Clerk to provide general healthcare administrative/clerical duties. This position will provide a positive first impression to patients, families, and other caretakers at time of check in and triage any concerns, conflicts, or requests to available staff or recommended services.
The ideal candidate will have a healthcare/medical terminology background or interest in the healthcare field and will have availability to work at least 10 hours/week, Monday-Friday.
Job Duties include:
- Check-in & Check-out Ambulatory Clinic Patients
- Call patients to discuss neurosurgery scheduled referrals.
- Upload documents to patients’ electronic medical records
- Create patient referral shells via Epic (electronic health record)
- Fax charge sheets to billing
- Assist with work compensation records and faxes.
- Assist in incoming and outgoing calls.
- Producing pre-op surgical folders
- Other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Clinic is open Monday – Friday 8am-5pm. Exact schedule is flexible and will incorporate student availability. Maximum 20 hours per week during the academic semesters, 40 hours per week during breaks.
* Applicants looking to work between 10-20 hours during the academic semesters and up to 40 hours/week through the academic breaks (i.e., Spring, Summer) preferred.
Pay: $12/hour
This position is located within the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center University Campus at 200 Hawkins Drive in Iowa City. Health screening compliances and patient medical health record trainings will be required at the time of hire. Hands on training provided.
Qualifications:
- Must be currently registered as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Iowa
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, patients, and the public.
- Proficient in operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, multi-line telephone)
- Knowledge of office software programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, as well as electronic meeting platforms such as Skype for Business and Zoom.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work at least 10 hours/week highly preferred.
- Ability to work 4-hour blocks highly preferred.
- Ability to work over breaks highly preferred.
