Summer Camp Program Leader
What do Program Leaders do?
The most important out of all Program Leader duties is to ensure campers are safe at all times. You are responsible for facilitating activities, engaging appropriately with youth and staff, and ensuring participants don’t get lost or hurt. During morning sessions, Program Leaders will either facilitate a session in their own area or provide support for a different area. During meals, afternoon activities, and field trips, Art, Rec, STEM, and Club Program Leaders will be assigned to 1 specific age group (K-7th grade).
This position is at a Day Camp. Lodging, meals, etc. are not provided.
Applicants must have a passion for one of the following areas:

Art --- Will facilitate all morning Art sessions. Must have at least 1 full year experience leading youth, be in college pursuing an aligned degree, or be a college graduate. The ideal candidate will have a love for all types of art and be able to think outside the box when planning programs that align to the interests of all youth.

Recreation/Sports/Healthy Living --- Will facilitate all morning Recreation sessions. Must have at least 1 full year experience leading youth, be in college pursuing an aligned degree, or be a college graduate. The ideal candidate will have a love for sports and be able to teach technical skills to our youth. The ideal candidate will also be able to incorporate active programs that align to the interests of all youth, especially those who may not love physical activity.

Club --- Will facilitate all morning Club sessions. Must have at least 1 full year experience leading youth, be in college pursuing an aligned degree, or be a college graduate. The ideal candidate will promote appropriate socialization among members through offering structured activities and games, including but not limited to high-yield activities, activities that build critical thinking skills, and activities that encourage exploration of new/different subjects. The ideal candidate will allow and encourage healthy competition, giving back to the local community, and more.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) — Must have at least 1 full year experience leading youth, be in college pursuing an aligned degree, or be a college graduate. Will facilitate all morning STEM sessions. The ideal candidate will have a love for STEM and be able to create an engaging and immersive experience for our youth.

Summer Brain Gain --- Will facilitate all morning SBG sessions. Must have at least 1 full year experience leading youth, be in college pursuing an aligned degree, or be a college graduate. Summer Brain Gain will promote active learning in fun and exciting ways. The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate math skills, literacy, and more.
Job Duties
- Program Leaders will be assigned to either Elementary ages (grades K-3) or Middle School ages (grades 4-7).
- Incorporate educational ideals and trends.
- Incorporate the outdoors.
- Make learning fun!
- Supervise and interact with campers during meal times and while swimming at the pool.
- Maintain appropriate relationship boundaries with participants, including but not limited to NO CONTACT with Club participants via text message, social media, or other messaging apps while employed by BGCW.
Responsibilities
- Build positive relationships with youth.
- Set and maintain consistent expectations in your program space.
- Create weekly or daily schedules taking into account children’s age groups and interests
- Educate campers through games and explorations.
- Set up and maintain equipment.
- Resolve occasional fights between children and address behavioral issues.
- Make sure all safety rules are followed.
- Ensure program areas are clean at all times and that campers don’t litter recreational areas or nature.
- Empower all summer campers to clean up after themselves.
- Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed.
- Keep accurate incident logs.

Requirements
- Pass background check.
- Has obtained or is pursuing a bachelor's degree in education, social work, or a similar field.
- Proven experience as a camp counselor, teacher, volunteer, or similar role working with children.
- First aid and CPR certified preferred
- Must be available to attend our paid Staff Training May 28-May 29 (dates & times may change if the Wooster School District utilizes make up days at the end of the school year.)
- Must be available to work M-F, June 1-July 31. Time off for vacations will not be permitted.
- Staff will have June 19 off in observance of Juneteenth.
- Staff will have June 29-July 3 off in observance of Independence Day and for a mid-summer break.
