York Water is seeking an Operations Technician to join our dynamic operations team. This position is designed to prepare motivated individuals for a future management role by providing comprehensive training and hands-on exposure across all operating departments. What You’ll Do:
As an Operations Technician you will:
- Gain hands-on experience in all operating departments, including Distribution, Engineering/Construction, Meter Repair, Filter Plant, Maintenance and Grounds, and Wastewater Treatment.
- Learn the interconnectedness of departmental operations and processes.
- Understand purchasing, material control, and budgeting responsibilities across departments.
- Develop supervisory skills and learn the impact of the collective bargaining agreement on operations.
- Learn and follow all relevant safety procedures.
- Complete special projects assigned by the Vice President – Operations.
- Be available for 24-hour call as assigned and assist during emergencies according to company procedures.
- Support training of new employees in coordination with department leadership.
- Demonstrate professional, positive behavior in all interactions on behalf of the company.
What We’re Looking For:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
- Previous internship or co-op experience in operations, utilities, or related fields is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong interest in pursuing a management career in water and wastewater operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to various operational environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including 24-hour call coverage as required.
