Job Summary
The Special Event Intern assists with the Museum’s large events, primarily Naper Nights concert series in June and July and the Farmers Market in July. Assists staff with event set up, logistics, and band hospitality. The intern will collaborate with the Marketing Intern with tasks such as distribution of print materials to sponsors and vendors.
Job Scope
No Supervisory responsibilities. The intern will assist staff with planning large-scale events, including vendor and contractor relations, event setup, event logistics, and day-of-event management.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in special event management & oversight during each event.
- Complete special projects as directed by supervisor.
- Works collaboratively with Museum staff and performs all other duties as assigned.
- Weekends and nights as required.
- Required to work June and July Naper Nights, June 19th & 20th and July 17th & 18th.
- Required to work Tuesdays during the Farmers Market in July.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Experience in providing world-class customer service.

- Experience with event planning and management preferred.

- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to details.
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
- Knowledge of general office procedures, and skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability and aptitude to learn specialized software and database systems.
Essential Functions
- Ability to use a phone to receive and send information, including managing multiple lines.
- Ability to proofread and check documents for errors.
- Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data.
- Ability to learn and work in a database system on a daily basis.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written formats.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff, members, volunteers and the general public.
- Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines, be well organized, and pay attention to details.
- Ability to multi-task and to work independently as well as to accept direction on given projects/assignments.
- Ability to lift or carry 25 lbs or more.
- Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly, as well as walk and/or stand for an hour or more at a time.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification
A commitment of 9 weeks during the summer is required. Interns will work approximately 24 hours per week beginning June 3, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Applicants must be a high school graduate; have completed their 1st year of college and enrolled in a degree-granting undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university.
