Marketing Intern

Position Title:            Marketing Intern

Job Summary

The Marketing Intern will support museum staff in promotions, messaging, writing, and social media. The intern will work on multiple internet platforms, advertising campaigns, and other projects as assigned. 

 

Job Scope

No supervisory responsibilities. The intern will assist with the Museum’s social media campaigns and be assigned to write copy, film content, develop collateral, and produce signage. The intern will also aid staff in ongoing campaigns and messaging.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1.  Assist with event promotion and messaging. 
  2. Assist in developing advertising and email campaigns. 
  3. Research, write, and film social media content in the Museum's voice.
  4. Proactively monitor brand and relevant themes/news stories and provide suggestions for timely content, assets, and conversations.
  5. Works collaboratively with Museum staff and performs all other duties as assigned.
  6. Weekends and nights as required. 
  7. Required to work June and July Naper Nights, June 19th & 20th and July 17th & 18th.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

 

  1. Experience in providing world-class customer service.
  2. Excellent organizational skills. 
  3. Experience with event planning and management preferred. 
  4. Skills in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  5. Ability to speak in public, be creative, handle details, be flexible, multi-task and to work under deadlines. 
  6. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to details.
  7. Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
  8. Knowledge of general office procedures, and skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  9. Ability and aptitude to learn specialized software and database systems.

 

Essential Functions

 

  1. Ability to use a phone to receive and send information, including managing multiple lines.
  2. Ability to proofread and check documents for errors.
  3. Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data.
  4. Ability to learn and work in a database system on a daily basis.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written formats.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and the general public. 
  7. Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines, be well organized, and pay attention to details.
  8. Ability to multi-task and to work independently as well as to accept direction on given projects/assignments.
  9. Ability to lift or carry 25 lbs. or more.
  10. Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly, as well as walk and/or stand for an hour or more at a time.

 

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification

A commitment of 9 weeks during the summer is required. Interns will work approximately 24 hours per week beginning June 3, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Applicants must be a high school graduate; have completed their 1st year of college and enrolled in a degree-granting undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university.
