Innovation Technology Intern

Position Title:            Innovation Technology Intern

Job Summary

The Innovation Technology Intern will support museum staff in technology support, inventory management, and troubleshooting. The intern will work on multiple computers and learn elements of Microsoft 365, Azure, Meraki, general technology infrastructure, and other projects as assigned. 

 

Job Scope

No supervisory responsibilities.  The intern will assist with the Museum’s interactive exhibits, audio-visual installations, and other technology across the campus.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Assist with interactive museum exhibits. 
  2. Assist in remedial windows operations, updates, and general computer maintenance.  
  3. Log and resolve tickets to maintain general technology. 
  4. Assist in the creation and maintenance of interactive museum exhibits. 
  5. Works collaboratively with Museum staff and performs all other duties as assigned.
  6. Weekends and nights as required. 
  7. Required to work June and July Naper Nights, June 19th & 20th and July 17th & 18th.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

 

  1. Experience in providing world-class customer service.
  2. Excellent organizational skills. 
  3. Experience with windows computers and audio-visual equipment is preferred. 
  4. Skills in communicating effectively and knowledge of IT ticketing processes.  
  5. Ability to speak in public, be creative, handle details, be flexible, multi-task and to work under deadlines. 
  6. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to details.
  7. Ability to work outdoors in all seasons.
  8. Knowledge of general office procedures, and skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  9. Ability and aptitude to learn specialized software and applications. 

 

Essential Functions

 

  1. Ability to use a computer to send-receive information and track tasks. 
  2. Ability to proofread and check documents for errors.
  3. Ability to use a keyboard to enter, retrieve or transform words or data.
  4. Ability to learn and work in a database system daily.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both in verbal and written formats.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, members, volunteers, and the general public. 
  7. Ability to be flexible, meet deadlines, be well organized, and pay attention to details.
  8. Ability to multi-task and to work independently as well as to accept direction on given projects/assignments.
  9. Ability to lift or carry 25 lbs. or more.
  10. Ability to walk up and down stairs regularly, as well as walk and/or stand for an hour or more at a time.

 

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification

A commitment of 9 weeks during the summer is required. Interns will work approximately 24 hours per week beginning June 3, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Applicants must be a high school graduate; have completed their 1st year of college and enrolled in a degree-granting undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university.
