Electrical Engineer I

Job Description

 

Electrical engineering focuses on the design and engineering of power, lighting, grounding/bonding, and special systems, e.g., data, security, fire alarm, raceway, cable tray and other electrical control and building support systems into the built work environment. Typical tasks and deliverables include power load, illumination, short circuit, and voltage drop calculations; basis of design reports, code evaluations; single line diagrams; plans; schedules; installation details; specifications; and coordination with manufacturers and construction trade partners. Tasks will include utilizing computer aided drafting and engineering software. 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications  

ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering 

0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting 

Fundamentals of Engineering Exam registration or completion preferred 

Additional Qualifications 

Fundamental experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing  electrical lighting, power, and special systems designs 

Ability to interface with client and external partners 

Ability to travel as for client development and project execution 

Fundamental experience conducting field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting 

Proficient at fundamental electrical design calculations under the supervision of an engineer 

Responsibilities  

The Electrical Engineer I is responsible for basic lay out electrical systems in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.  

Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures. 

Work closely with other architects, engineers, and designers, as well as, other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design. 

Works on matters of basic complexity in a support role under the direction of more experienced Electrical Engineers.  

This role is expected to self-check one’s own work.  

May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.  

Project work may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration.
