- Starts at $14.00/hour, depending on qualifications
- Reports to Senior Recreation Supervisor- Youth & Therapeutic Recreation
- Located at Homeward Hills Park, Miller Park, Nesbitt Preserve Park, Crestwood Park, Prairie View Park, Lake Riley Park, Staring Lake Park, and the Eden Prairie Community Center
- Position runs June – August 2026; Monday – Friday up to 40 hours a week. No weekends or evenings!
Responsibilities
The Day Camp Counselor position provides onsite leadership to youth and is the primary caregiver for each camper. The counselor assists in the development and organization of daily camp activities and implementing the experiences in small groups. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their color groups during activities and throughout the camp to meet the needs of the camper.
- Assure campers are always supervised.
- Must be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
- Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers.
- Actively participate in all program areas with campers.
- Responsible for leading or assisting with the teaching of activities.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers.
- Provide daily care of each camper, including recognition of personal health needs.
- Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to the Lead Counselor.
- Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior.
- Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
- Set a good example to campers and others regarding camp procedures and practices including being on time, sportsmanship, organization, communication, enthusiasm, and proper hygiene.
- Represents the City of Eden Prairie professionally when interacting with parents or community members.
- Communicates with and greets the parents of the campers daily.
- Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their camper to have a successful camp experience.
- A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities to fully participate in camp activities.
While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years of age by June 10, 2026
- Availability June – August; Mondays – Fridays; attend evening staff meetings.
- Preferred previous experience working, babysitting or volunteering with youth.
- Must be current or able to become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day with campers.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, behavior, or emergency related situations. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency.
- Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers such as prolonged standing, bending, walking long distances, running, climbing and ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Ability to communicate and work with all age and skills levels and provide necessary instruction to campers. Observe behaviors assess its appropriateness, enforce safety and emergency procedures as needed.
- Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, work verification.
