Photographer and Media Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Photographer and Media Specialist is in charge of the daily photographic documentation of campers and camp activities. They are committed to capturing moments to share with parents daily and are responsible for the creation of end-of-session slideshows for each camper session throughout the summer. The Photographer and Media Specialist may also take on a leadership role in promoting content on Camp Echo’s social media platforms as a way to enhance our outreach and impact in the community. They are diligent in not only taking quality photos but organizing digital copies to be utilized throughout the off-season and in McGaw YMCA Camp Echo marketing campaigns.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Takes digital photos of campers in program areas and activities and uploads them to CampMinder/Campanion 1-2 times a day with the goal of taking photos of all campers including those not on main camp.
  • Pay special attention to taking photos of younger campers at the start of each session while not ignoring other programs.
  • Takes cabin photos of all groups on camp and uploads them to CampMinder/Campanion promptly.
  • Chooses the best photos from the session (80-100 photos) and creates a slideshow at the end of each session to highlight camper activities, then upload to our YouTube page before start of next session.
  • Keeps assigned office space neat, clean, and organized.
  • Alerts the Operations Coordinator if there is equipment in need of repair or replacement.
  • Backs up and organizes all photos onto the designated Camp Echo drive under the direction of the Operations Coordinator and Program Director. 
  • Posts on the Camp Echo Facebook and Instagram pages daily (Camp and staff pages) always with revisions first from the Operations Coordinator and/or Program Director.
  • Takes photos of staff throughout the summer and uploads to the designated Camp Echo drive.
  •  Makes the staff slideshow for the end of summer banquet and supports creation of digital All-Summer staff recognition.
  • Cares for and maintains equipment, supplies and property of camp.
  • Works with Operations Coordinator to develop new and innovative ways to use photo/video to promote camp keeping customers’ (specifically parents’) needs as the focal point of projects.
  • Assists the Operations Coordinator with other tasks as needed.
  • Assigned to staff activity areas and substitute for assigned counselors in a cabin as needed due to enrollment of night out coverage.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum age of 18 per Michigan State Licensing requirements.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
  • Experienced with digital photography, including composition and editing.
  • Computer literate. Skills in file organization & social networking.
  • Possess a variety of professional and social skills. Previous camp/youth photography experience a plus.
  • A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population for the fulfillment of YMCA goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF ALL ECHO STAFF:

  • Models, teaches, and upholds the Camp Echo Code of Conduct and protects the well-being of all campers and staff.
  • Reports any behavior that goes against the Camp Echo Code of Conduct and/or puts any camper or staff at emotional or physical risk.
  • Aids in the development and education of Teen Leadership program participants.
  • Maintains positive relationships with campers and other staff.
  • Encourages physical, emotional, and spiritual growth and positive character development in all campers.
  • Practices cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to cultures different than their own.
  • Is a team player, helping others to achieve their potential by enthusiastically saying “yes” when asked to help.
  • Takes initiative and strives to be an active participant in creating positive programs and spaces at camp.
  • Cares for and maintains any program equipment, supplies, and spaces they use including activity areas (keeping track of keys) and any shared spaces like the offices, Costume Closet and Program Office.
  • Handles whatever else is necessary to ensure that programs run smoothly and safely, or anything else that is deemed necessary by supervisors.
  • May be scheduled to work in-between sessions on at least one occasion to support the transition between groups.
