Premium & Catering Intern - Indianapolis Motor Speedway
The Premium & Catering Intern will support the Premium, Catering, and Hospitality teams at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, assisting with the coordination and execution of premium dining experiences during races, special events, and large-scale activations.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to premium service operations, event execution, and behind-the-scenes planning in a high-volume, live-event environment. Interns will work alongside managers and supervisors to support daily operations, guest service, and administrative tasks related to premium and catered events.
Qualifications:
This position is intended for students pursuing degrees in hospitality, event management, business, or related fields
Interest in premium service, catering, and live-event hospitality operations
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Willingness to adjust schedules during peak event periods
What the Student Will Learn:
Assist with setup, execution, and breakdown of premium and catered events
Support premium dining rooms, suites, and hospitality spaces during service
Help prepare event materials such as BEOs, menus, signage, and service timelines
Assist managers with pre-event checklists, post-event recaps, and daily reports
Coordinate with culinary, concessions, and warehouse teams to ensure accurate event execution
Support inventory counts, product staging, and delivery tracking for premium events
Observe and assist with service standards, table setup, buffet presentation, and guest flow
Assist with quality checks to ensure food presentation and service standards are met
Communicate with supervisors to relay operational needs during events
Assist with training materials, SOP updates, and operational documentation as needed
Maintain cleanliness and organization in premium service areas and storage spaces
Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and uniform policies
Perform other duties as assigned to support premium and catering operations
This role may involve physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and event-day movement. Uniforms and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
Scheduling and Logistics:
This internship offers flexible scheduling with no strict start or end date requirements. We are primarily seeking students who can commit heavily from mid-April through the Month of May, our busiest operational period.
Primary commitment: at least two weeks in April and all of May
Hours: typically 15–30 hours per week, with increased hours during major May events
Post-May opportunities: hours may decrease after May, but additional work opportunities may be available based on interest and business needs
This role is ideal for students seeking hands-on experience in a fast-paced, live-event environment while maintaining academic flexibility. There is also a potential to transfer over to the Zoo for a cross-internship experience!
