Applied Piano Co-Teacher
Burke Music Academy seeks a highly skilled Applied Piano Co-Teacher / Collaborative Pianist to support vocalists and instrumentalists through studio instruction, rehearsals, coachings, and performances. This role is ideal for a pianist who operates fluently as both educator and collaborator, with a strong understanding of technique, musicianship, stylistic integrity, and rehearsal pedagogy.
The successful candidate demonstrates artistic sensitivity, pedagogical awareness, and professional reliability, supporting students across pre-college, conservatory-track, and advanced levels.
Core Responsibilities
Applied Instruction & Pedagogy
Serve as co-teacher in applied voice or instrumental lessons, reinforcing:
Score literacy
Rhythm, harmonic awareness, and ensemble skills
Stylistic interpretation and historical context
Support technical development through collaborative rehearsal strategies
Reinforce practice strategies and musicianship habits consistent with conservatory standards
Accompaniment & Collaboration
Accompany students in:
Weekly lessons
Studio classes
Coachings and masterclasses
Auditions, juries, recitals, and performances
Prepare repertoire independently and professionally, including:
Art song
Musical theatre
Opera
Classical instrumental repertoire
Adjust musically in real time to support student learning and performance success
Rehearsal & Performance Support
Attend and actively participate in:
Musical rehearsals
Staging rehearsals (when applicable)
Dress rehearsals and performances
Collaborate closely with faculty, directors, and students to maintain musical cohesion
Provide musical leadership in rehearsal environments
Professional Standards & Communication
Maintain punctuality, preparedness, and clear communication
Track repertoire assignments and rehearsal expectations

Required Qualifications
Advanced proficiency in piano performance (Bachelor’s degree minimum; Master’s preferred)
Demonstrated experience as a collaborative pianist or accompanist
Strong sight-reading and score-learning skills
Familiarity with vocal diction (IPA awareness strongly preferred)
Experience working with singers and/or instrumentalists in an educational setting
Excellent musical adaptability and ensemble awareness
Preferred Qualifications
Prior conservatory or pre-college teaching experience
Background in vocal coaching, musical theatre, or opera
Experience with young artists, advanced teens, or early professionals
Comfort navigating rehearsal-intensive schedules
Compensation
Competitive hourly or per-service rate, commensurate with experience
Rehearsal and performance hours compensated separately when applicable
