Building Operations Assistant - Summer and/or Fall 2026 - Work Study or Regular Pay
Position Summary
Building Operations Assistants are responsible for the physical setup and maintenance of meeting rooms and event spaces in the University Center, Drumlin, and Esker. The position also involves light cleaning and building upkeep. Building Operations Assistants work closely with UC Building Managers, Audio/Visual Assistants, UC Reservations, Custodial & Maintenance, and various campus and external clients. Successful team members demonstrate reliability, strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.

Tasks
All UC Employees:

- Participate and complete onboarding, UC-wide Orientation, and training.
Position Specific:
- Room Setup and Breakdown: Set up and take down tables, chairs, staging, and other equipment according to diagrams or client instructions for events and meetings.
- Client Interaction and Support: Provide direct assistance to clients during events, including adjusting layouts, responding to last-minute needs, and maintaining a professional, helpful presence.
- Light Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness in meeting and open areas by removing debris, emptying trash/recycling, wiping surfaces, and monitoring bathrooms and flooring conditions.
- Collaboration with Departments: Work with UC team members staff to ensure events run smoothly and setups are complete.
- Policy and Procedure Compliance: Follow all safety, operational, and setup procedures, and help update and improve existing processes.
- Support for Campus Events: Assist with large-scale campus programs by supporting setup needs, room changes, and last-minute adjustments to ensure event success.
Additional Requirement(s) (Meetings/Training/Event Staffing)
- Physical Capabilities: Must be able to safely lift and move up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require bending, standing, or kneeling for extended periods. Accommodations available as needed.
- Work Ethic and Accountability: Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and integrity in all duties. Must be proactive in identifying issues, solving problems, and supporting the team.
