Summer Field Intern

CVE is seeking motivated and hard-working Summer Field Interns to join our Signal & Utility team.  This internship provides hands-on experience supporting construction projects, including traffic signal installation, underground electrical and communication utilities, street lighting, and related civil work such as concrete elements (sidewalks, ADA ramps, curb & gutter, foundations, footings). 

As a Field Intern, you will assist experience crews with a variety of manual labor, equipment support, and construction tasks while learning industry best practices in a safe, collaborative environment.  This is an excellent opportunity to gain real-world exposure to electrical utility and infrastructure construction.   

What you’ll learn and do: 

  • Follow all safety practices, requirements, and policies to prevent accidents and injuries. 
  • Support installation of conduit, wire pulling (underground and overhead), junction boxes, cabinets, traffic signals, street lighting and related infrastructure. 
  • Participate in forming, placing, finishing and stripping concrete under guidance. 
  • Help construct and install foundations, footings, sidewalks, ADA ramps, curb & gutter, and other concrete structures. 
  • Assist with excavation, trenching and site preparation. 
  • Support equipment operators by preparing sites, guiding work and assisting with safe equipment maneuvering. 
  • Collaborate with crew members, follow construction plans and specifications, and contribute to coordinated project execution. 
  • Perform general manual labor tasks, including lifting, carrying and handling materials. 

What you bring:   

  • Current valid driver’s license with a clean record
  • Ability to pass a drug test
  • Availability to work 40+ hours/ week during the summer period 
  • Flexibility to be assigned to various project sites/locations in Utah 
  • Physically able to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of material
  • Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a strong work ethic 
  • Ideal candidates are students pursuing degrees in construction management, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or related fields (or those seeking hands-on experience)
