Early Childhood Grant Specialist

POSITION OPENING: Early Childhood Grant Specialist

In this role, you will design and implement systems and processes to manage over $40M in local, state, federal, and foundation grants in the Early Childhood Unit including Early On, GreatStart Collaborative, GreatStart Readiness Preschool, and Help Me Grow.

WHAT WE NEED: 

  • Provide leadership, oversight, design, and implementation of a grants management system to ensure compliance and accountability for local, state, federal and foundation funded projects.
  • Facilitate training for internal staff regarding the implementation of the grants management system.
  • Coordinate pre and post award aspects of funding by preparing work plans, budgets, narratives, and timelines.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, design, and implementation of a consistent system to track and monitor the unit’s grant and operational budget to ensure compliance, resolve problems, and answer inquiries.
  • Review and ensure proposals, expenditures, and financials of grant funded sub-recipients are complete, accurate and conform with procedures and regulations.
  • Provide sub-recipients with technical assistance and support to ensure understanding of and compliance with Oakland Schools, MDE and other funder policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Perform data extraction and reporting to fulfill standardized and ad-hoc requests from Oakland Schools staff, MDE, local school districts, state and county governments, community-based organizations, and other OS departments.
  • Design and implement a variety of financial and reporting templates to create consistency across programs, funders, and consultant staff.
  • Create and facilitate monthly financial meetings with Early Childhood Director, finance, and other stakeholders to monitor and evaluate progress towards continuous improvement grant expenditures and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WHAT YOU NEED: 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an office setting; project management, grant tracking, and budgeting experience preferred
  • Strong computer software skills including Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience providing training and technical assistance regarding processes and policies.

SALARY DETAILS: 

$24.80 - $ 28.75 hourly based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $30.96  after employment with Oakland Schools. 

Non - Exempt position / 12-month work year.
