Intern- Process Development, DNA Development

Position Summary

The purpose of the Process Development, DNA Development Intern position is to support the DNA Development team in ongoing development activities.  This project will contribute to evaluating the impact of Inverted Terminal Repeats stability on rAAV manufacturing.  This role offers hands-on experience in a laboratory and exposure to key elements of molecular biology and plasmid production. 

 

This position is based in RTP, NC and will report to the Associate Director, DNA Development.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Learn & support plasmid constructs generation, including cloning strategy, transformation, colony screening, and establishing bacterial glycerol stocks.
  • Perform bacterial culture growth to support & optimize plasmid production process.
  • Purify plasmid DNA from bacterial cultures using established laboratory methods.
  • Communicate experimental observations and progress regularly with hiring manager and project team.
  • Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing project outcomes at the end of the internship.
  • Operate within the team structure, working under the direct guidance of an assigned mentor and reporting progress to the hiring manager.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in Bachelor’s degree program in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, or equivalent)
  • Must be at least a junior at university at the time of your application
  • Should have a basic understanding of one or more of the following techniques: aseptic technique, making reagents at desired dilutions or concentrations, Restriction Enzyme digest, Gel Electrophoresis, DNA quantitation, identifying annotated features on a plasmid map, bacterial cell culture, centrifugation, filtration, and liquid chromatography
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized and the ability to positively interact in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain formal record keeping
  • Comfortable with working and learning in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Service-oriented and quality mindset/attitude
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel)

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  • Prior internship, work, or volunteer/extracurricular experience
  • Prior experience working in a lab environment
  • Experience with SnapGene software
