Upper School Journalism Teacher

Upper School Journalism Teacher

Menlo School seeks an Upper School Journalism teacher starting in August 2026. This is an opportunity to teach highly motivated students and also build on the journalism program’s strong foundation as adviser to The Coat of Arms, Menlo’s award-winning student newspaper. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of teaching experience and a background as a newspaper reporter, editor, or professional in a related media field.

The position may be structured as a part-time role (teaching one section of Introductory Journalism and one section of Advanced Journalism) or as a full-time position (four sections total) for a candidate who can also teach additional courses within Menlo’s core curriculum.

In addition to teaching journalism courses, the new teacher will serve as faculty advisor to The Coat of Arms, mentoring student editors and writers while supervising the publication’s five print editions and expanding digital and multimedia presence. Superior judgment, strong ethical grounding, and the ability to thoughtfully guide students through complex editorial decisions are essential to this role, but so is a belief in the importance of student journalism.

At Menlo, we look for educators who:

  • Will inspire and support our students and be active participants in our student life program and in other aspects of our vibrant learning community.
  • Share our dedication to cultivating an ever more heterogeneous and inclusive community while committing to equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Actively cultivate environments that empower girls and students from underrepresented backgrounds so that all students will see and counter gender and race biases in group work at school and beyond, and are deeply invested in teaching in ways that recognize the implicit biases they and the world hold, to engage students in culturally competent ways.
  • Will work to be inclusive so that every student can see themself in their classrooms, the curricula, and their disciplines.
  • Are highly collaborative with other community members both within their own department and in the School community as a whole.
  • Are committed to professional growth in their discipline and in their teaching practice.
  • Are passionate about teaching, experts in their fields, and dedicated to helping all students achieve their personal best.
  • Will embody the heart of Menlo School by promoting collegial, respectful, and supportive relationships.

We offer:

  • An exceptional work environment and caring community
  • Highly competitive salary
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including generous contributions to a retirement plan for eligible employees and their families. Learn more here.
