Teaching Assistant
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will support teachers in delivering high-quality education. This role involves working closely with children in a classroom setting, providing assistance with daily activities, and fostering a positive learning environment. The Teaching Assistant will play a crucial role in promoting childhood development and ensuring that all students receive the attention they need to thrive.
Responsibilities
Classroom Support
- Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily lessons and classroom activities.
- Prepare materials, supplies, and manipulatives for instruction.
- Support small groups or individual students during lessons or centers.
- Help monitor and engage students during independent work, enrichments, and transitions.
- Reinforce classroom expectations, routines, and positive behavior systems.
Student Supervision
- Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, lunchroom, playground, chapel, and carpool.
- Ensure student safety and model appropriate behavior at all times.
- Support teachers in maintaining a calm, structured, and joyful learning environment.
- Escort or assist students to enrichments, nurse’s office, or other areas as needed.
Administrative and Instructional Support
- Prepare instructional materials, bulletin boards, and classroom setups.
- Help maintain classroom organization and cleanliness.
- Communicate observations about student progress, needs, or behavior to the teacher.
Community and School Support
- Participate in school events, chapel, and assemblies as part of the faculty community.
- Assist with special projects, field trips, and classroom celebrations.
- Support the spiritual and emotional life of the classroom in alignment with the school’s Episcopal identity.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
Professional Expectations
- Be punctual, dependable, and professional in all interactions.
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork with teachers, staff, and administration.
- Seek feedback and engage in professional growth opportunities.
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
Requirements
- Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, or classroom setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and practices.
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques and caregiving for children with disabilities.
- First aid certification is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children of all abilities.
- Previous experience in roles such as nannying or babysitting is beneficial.
