Field Biology Intern (2 Positions)

Otter Creek Watershed Insect Control District (OCW)

The Otter Creek Watershed Insect Control District (OCW) is offering two paid, full-time seasonal Field Biology Internships for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in field biology, entomology, and public health. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals on science-based, environmentally responsible mosquito control programs that serve local communities.

No prior experience required — training provided. This internship is designed as a learning opportunity.

What You’ll Learn & Do

Under the direction of the Entomology Lab Supervisor, interns will:

  • Gain hands-on experience surveying mosquito larval and adult populations across six towns
  • Learn mosquito identification techniques using a dissecting microscope
  • Assist with environmentally responsible larvicide applications based on surveillance thresholds
  • Develop skills in data collection, management, and reporting using Excel spreadsheets
  • Help communicate science to the public through website updates and Instagram posts documenting District work

Schedule & Pay

  • Full-time, seasonal internship (40 hours per week)
  • Pay: $20.00 per hour

This position is well suited for students studying:

  • Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Public Health, or related fields

Successful interns will be:

  • Reliable, curious, and eager to learn
  • Comfortable working outdoors and in a laboratory setting
  • Able to follow protocols while also working independently
  • Interested in gaining real-world field and lab experience
