Each Associate Editor will:

  • Author at least one (1) student note analyzing current legal developments relevant to wealth planning professionals
  • Edit at least one (1) peer-contributed student note to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, and adherence to editorial standards
  • Collaborate with our Managing Associate Editor and editorial team throughout the publication cycle

What You'll Gain

  • Authorship credit as author on your published student note(s)
  • Named editorial credit on articles you edit
  • A professional portfolio demonstrating legal research, analysis, and writing skills to prospective employers
  • Potential opportunity to discuss your work on our podcast (under development)

Timeline & Commitment

  • Duration: Minimum one semester (continued participation encouraged if desired by intern)
  • Hours: Flexible; approximately 10 hours/week (variable based on publication cycle) or less.
  • Note Production: Student notes are typically completed within 2–4 weeks

Qualifications

Required:

  • Undergraduate students pursuing legal careers OR current law students (J.D. or LL.M., any concentration)
  • Minimum GPA: 3.5
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing publication-quality work
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to ask clarifying questions and provide constructive editorial feedback
  • Proactive work habits and ability to meet deadlines independently

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with legal citation (Bluebook) or willingness to learn
  • Prior legal writing or editing experience

Important Notes

  • Journal-wide output is 5–15 student notes per semester, contingent on the number of interns hired and availability of relevant legal developments
  • Our Managing Associate Editor reserves the right to decline publication of notes that do not meet WSJ's quality standards; constructive feedback will be provided to support your development
  • Your name will appear on all work you author and edit—this is both an opportunity and a professional responsibility
