About the Role
The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com is seeking a motivated and curious intern to join our newsroom. This internship offers hands-on experience covering New Orleans, one of the most dynamic cities in the country. For 8-10 weeks this summer, you’ll work alongside experienced journalists to report on breaking news, local government, culture, crime, and community issues. This is a paid internship, though housing and transportation is not provided.
Responsibilities
- Assist reporters and editors with daily news coverage
- Pitch story ideas relevant to New Orleans and the surrounding region
- Report, write, and fact-check articles for print and digital platforms
- Conduct interviews (in person, phone, and email) with sources
- Help cover breaking news, public meetings, and community events
- Perform basic research and data gathering to support newsroom projects
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a journalism, communications, or related program (or equivalent experience)
- Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills
- Interest in local news and issues affecting New Orleans and Louisiana
- Ability to work on deadline in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Willingness to learn and take editorial feedback
- Basic familiarity with AP style preferred
- Photography, video, or multimedia skills are a plus
