Urban Arborist Intern

This position is located in the Construction and Facility Management Office (CFMO), Facility Management (FM) Branch, and works under supervision (limited supervision) of the Facilities Maintenance Branch Operations Specialist. This is a Limited Term position. This position will help create the Urban Arborist Program across the state which includes 69 facility locations. It will establish, survey, and implement standard arborist professional activities.
GOALS AND WORKERS ACTIVITIES
30% A. Inventory. Conduct basic inventory of trees including condition assessments and
developing risk understanding and solutions.
30% B. Operation. Conduct abatement of identified risks. Conduct activities using contractor
assistance or own skills. Activities include planting, pruning, maintenance, and removal activities.
30% C. Planning. Establish and implement basic urban forestry management program.
Establish State / Local partnerships. Complete administrative actions such as travel and budget.
10% D. Performance of other duties as assigned in support of the urban forestry program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal relations skills for a variety of facility
customers is essential. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
2. Resourcefulness and initiative in organizing, planning, prioritizing, and scheduling.
3. Ability to comprehend and interpret written guidelines and administrative procedures and
apply such information to routine and non-routine problems.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires extensive travel, vehicle license required. A vehicle and gas are provided for travel.
Travel time will be during work hours.
2. Experience with arborist tools of the trade. Enrolled in an arborist or forestry college
program. Arborist certifications (such as ISA International Society of Arboriculture) is a plus.
