Market Access Analytics & Insights Intern
UCB is seeking a highly motivated and insights-driven graduate student to intern with our Market Access Strategic Planning, Analytics & Insights team, reporting to our Analytics Lead. The Analytics team is responsible for supporting all Market Access functions – including Payer Strategy & Account Management, Channel & Trade, Field Access & Reimbursement, Specialty Pharmacy, and HEOR – in the development of insights and tools that enhance our understanding of payer and channel dynamics, helping optimize strategies for account management and field access teams. The role involves developing strategic and tactical approaches for patient pull-through initiatives that maximize formulary coverage opportunities into increased prescriptions and improved patient access experience. These activities will ensure market access successes translate into real-world patient uptake. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and eager to learn about the pharmaceutical market access landscape.
Key Responsibilities may include
Data Analysis & Insights
Provide essential support to the Analytics Lead by leveraging data from our pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) customer portals (such as CVS, Optum, and ESI).
Assist in analyzing payer and channel data to identify trends and drivers, opportunities, and risks to improve patient journeys and maximize effectiveness across portfolios using SQL in UCB database.
Analyze payer coverage data, formulary status, and prescribing trends to identify discrepancies between coverage and actual prescribing practices to engage the right HCPs based on prescribing potential and access barriers.
Support segmentation and profiling of accounts based on access and reimbursement metrics.
Performance Metrics & Dashboards
Source account performance and utilization data, contract performance data, and customer portal data/claims data
Develop and maintain dashboards (e.g., Qlik Sense, Tableau, Power BI) to monitor KPIs and build performance updates and business reviews for account teams and field access/reimbursement teams.
Track performance against strategic objectives and provide actionable insights.
Reporting & Visualization
Prepare regular reports and visualizations for leadership and cross-functional teams.
Ensure data accuracy and consistency across reporting platforms.
Collaboration
Work closely with National, Government & Strategic Account teams, Channel & Trade Relations, Pricing & Contracting, Payer Strategy, Business Units, Analytics and Market Research teams to understand business needs and deliver solutions.
Participate in meetings to share findings and recommendations.

3. Build Expertise in Data Visualization & Reporting
o Acquire hands-on experience creating dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.
o Learn best practices for presenting complex data in a clear, actionable format.
4. Collaborate in a Cross-Functional Environment
o Learn how analytics supports decision-making across Account Management teams, Marketing & Sales, and Field Reimbursement.
o Develop communication skills for sharing insights with non-technical stakeholders.
5. Apply Insights to Real-World Business Challenges
o Participate in projects that influence strategy and improve patient access.
o Understand how data-driven decisions shape pricing, contracting, and payer engagement.
o Understand how data-driven insights can enhance and optimize patient pull-through planning and execution
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Finance, Business, Economics, Public Health, Pharmacy, Science or related field.
- Must have experience with SQL
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data manipulation and visualization tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense or similar tools).
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical market access concepts (payer systems, reimbursement, specialty pharmacy and distribution channels) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present data-driven insights clearly.
- Self-starter with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
