Cosmetic Chemist Intern

Shin-Etsu Silicones of America is looking to hire a Cosmetic Chemist Intern at our Paramus, New Jersey lab.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Scale up skin care, color cosmetic, sunscreens, and hair care formulations.
  • Primary focus on emulsion technology.
  • Fill samples with existing bulk for lab inventory and customer/sales team requests.
  • Work on basic fundamental/qualitative studies to gather further knowledge of Shin-Etsu materials.
  • Fill samples for raw material and formulation kits.
  • Check lab stabilities.
  • Personal care market watch with Shin-Etsu Materials (US and Asian Markets) - requires data entry using Microsoft Power Point.
  • Creation of formulation sheets using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Perform other projects and duties as requested by manager.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Must be a recent graduate with a Science degree or a student currently enrolled in college working towards a Science degree.  Degree preference:  Cosmetic Chemistry.

 

Qualifications:

  • Ability to adapt to job assignments as needed.
  • Must be able to take direction and work effectively within a team environment. 
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate (verbal and written) effectively.
  • Must have a professional and positive attitude.
  • Must have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be punctual and reliable.
  • Must be able to work the length of the internship (end of May through August).

 

Work Environment:

  • This position operates primarily in a cosmetics laboratory environment and occasionally in an office environment. 
  • The lab role routinely uses standard lab equipment including: pH meters, Viscometers, High Shear Mixer, Laboratory Vacuum, Microscope, and other instrumentation relevant to analysis including a variety of hand tools. 
  • The office role routinely uses standard office equipment.

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Stands/walks (4hrs/day or more) in various labs
  • Works near or with mechanical equipment
  • Works with computerized equipment and database entry
  • Handles organic solvents, silicones, powders, volatile fluids, acids and bases, nitrogen gas
