EPA Emissions Dynamometer Technician

Position: EPA Emissions Technician

Location: GM Milford Proving Grounds

Number of Openings:  1

Shifts:  Multiple (see breakdowns below) – can do 4, 10 hour days.

  • 1st Sun-Wed 6AM-4:30PM, or 
  • 1st Wed-Sat 6am-4:30PM, or
  • 2nd Sun-Wed 4PM-2:30AM, or
  • 2nd Wed - Saturday 2PM-10:30PM

Environment: 

Test facility, clean space, lab orientated space, climate controlled, all indoors.

Interview Process:  30 minute MS Teams with the hiring manager and several others from the Emissions Testing Lab. 

Training:

Intensive training for 6 months. 

Pay:  Entry Level

Age Requirement:  Must be 21 years or older.

Driving Requirement:  This role entails about 50% of driving new vehicles for dynamometer and EPA emissions testing.  A good driving record is essential.  

 

Overview:

We are seeking Emissions Technicians who will focus on EPA testing for mileage and emission standards. As an Associate Technician, you will demonstrate basic knowledge, skills, training, and learning ability that you can use in other Engineering organizations. This entry level technician position is for technicians with little or no experience that have some formal education in a core skill area. In this role you will handle basic project assignments with supervision.

Motivator for this need – combination of backfilling positions and needing the help, they are expecting an increase in workload.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and perform emission testing on vehicles.
  • Evaluate results
  • Recommend corrective action

 

Examples of a plan for the day - 

  • Assigned a work order from the Lead Development Engineer.
    • Work on the issue until it is complete.
  • Perform vehicle testing on the dyno
  • Hook vehicle up to the dyno
  • Driving on the dyno – large part of the day
  • Record data, report the data and findings
  • Work on Emissions for the government
  • Prep vehicles for emissions testing and data collection
  • Upfitting of electrical components in vehicles
  • Put computer stacks, wiring, emissions probes, temperature checks in the vehicles
  • Fabrication of the exhaust systems
  • Might set the whole vehicle up if something isn’t working and find and fix the issue(s).
  • Friday’s is an engineering meeting to go over findings.

 

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree, 2 years of Experience with Dynamometer Testing and Lab Operations Setup. 
  • Experience with AVL, Horiba, or Burke Porter equipment
  • Be able to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Must have broad troubleshooting skills
  • Must have a good driving record!  This position involves driving corporate vehicles.
