Marketing, Advertising, and Social Media Associate for Summer Literacy Program

About Wise Readers to Leaders 

Wise Readers to Leaders is a growing nonprofit organization that offers a free, six-week summer literacy and enrichment program for Kindergarten through 8th grade students from Title I LAUSD schools that aims to remediate the academic losses experienced during the pandemic and prevent the “summer slide”, or learning loss which typically occurs over summer months. Our staff and volunteers work to create a powerful, fun, and transformative summer for scholars from high-need communities by providing innovative and exciting literacy curriculum, engaging enrichment activities and experiential learning opportunities. In addition, our Summer Program includes teen volunteers known as Junior Literacy Leaders, who assist in classrooms, support classroom facilitation, and lead enrichment activities. We emphasize literacy while instilling a love of reading and a sense of self-confidence that bolsters academic success by offering our original literacy curriculum in the morning and “camp style” enrichment activities in the afternoon.

The main responsibilities of the Social Media Coordinator include, but are not limited to-

As our Marketing Associate you will curate engaging and creative content for multiple social media platforms, work closely with office staff, be an extra set of hands at off site field trips, and capture pictures and videos weekly at our sites to post on stories and share on the various platforms. 

Roles and responsibilities: 

  • Visit each Wise Readers to Leaders (WRTL) literacy program site at least once per week, for a minimum of six hours per visit.
  • Capture a minimum of 20 high-quality photographs and two short videos per day that reflect program activities, student engagement, and community impact.
  • Prepare clear, engaging, and accurately written captions for each photo and organize them in a shared Google Doc.
  • Collect, curate, and organize photos and videos submitted by staff and volunteers to ensure consistent branding and quality.
  • Create and manage media release documentation, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
  • Maintain meticulous records of staff, volunteers, and scholars who do or do not have signed media release forms, and ensure content shared adheres strictly to these permissions.
  • Develop and design newsletters highlighting program updates, events, and impact stories.
  • Meet weekly with management to review collected media, plan content, and develop social media posts and campaigns.
  • Attend summer field trips and capture a minimum of 40 photos on field trip days to document student experiences and enrichment activities.
  • Manage social media content for the Rock the Clock fundraiser, including:
    • Creating and scheduling daily posts leading up to the event
    • Posting hourly updates on the day of the fundraiser to drive engagement and participation
  • Create invitations and communications for donor outreach
  • Mentor and support teen social media volunteers at each site, providing guidance on content creation, digital storytelling, and responsible social media practices.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Completed high school and possess strong organizational skills and creativity; Proficiency in Canva, all social media platforms, and photo editing; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills; an energetic, positive and enthusiastic demeanor. 

Recommended- 

○ Past experience with Wise Readers to Leaders 

○ Some proficiency in Spanish

      ○ Experience working with teens and K-8th grade students

Program Dates and Times

Our 2026 WRTL Summer Literacy Program will run for six weeks from June 22nd to July 31st, with July 3rd off in observance of Independence Day. The work hours during the program will be 7:45am-4:15pm. Additional paid training sessions are required prior to the start of our program, scheduled for June 13-20, as well as additional, post-program days from 8/03-8/07. You will be responsible for your own transportation. Many summer staff arrange carpools with each other at their sites. 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and mileage. 

 

This role would be great for many different degrees and career paths, particularly for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees and/or careers in marketing, public relations, or graphic design.
