Position Summary

The Commercial Construction Estimating Intern will assist the estimating team in preparing cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This role offers hands-on experience with real projects, exposure to industry-standard software, and mentorship from experienced estimators and project managers.

This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related fields who are interested in the preconstruction and estimating side of the construction industry.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in reviewing project drawings, specifications, and bid documents

Perform quantity takeoffs for materials and labor

Help solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes

Support the preparation of detailed cost estimates and bid proposals

Organize estimating files, bid logs, and documentation

Participate in pre-bid meetings and internal estimate reviews

Learn and utilize estimating software and spreadsheets

Perform general administrative and research tasks related to estimating

Qualifications

Required:

Currently enrolled in a Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related degree program

Basic understanding of construction methods and materials

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings (or willingness to learn)

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer skills

Preferred:

Previous construction or estimating internship experience

Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar)

Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions
