Internship Program-Engineering Track
Engineering Track
Engineering interns at Hanwha Philly Shipyard gain hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of ship design and production. The primary focus is on Design Review — understanding how engineering data flows from models and drawings to the production floor.
Interns are typically placed in one or more departments such as:
- Piping
- Electrical Systems
- Hull & Structural
- Outfitting
- Project Engineering
- Quality Support
Typical Responsibilities
- Participate in design review meetings using Navisworks and AutoCAD (2D) to identify interferences and verify constructability.
- Assist engineers with drawing markups, redlines, and revisions using Adobe Acrobat and coordinate updates with production.
- Help prepare and distribute Engineering Work Packages (EWPs) and maintain revision control.
- Support Design Change Notices (DCNs), including creating or updating associated drawings.
- Participate in field walk-downs to confirm installation progress and collect data for design verification.
- Assist with Bill of Materials (BOM) creation and material tracking using Excel and SAP.
- Collaborate with Planning, Production, and Quality to resolve design or material issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on documentation, workflow accuracy, and communication.
