Afterschool Program Teacher
Overview
Seedling is dedicated to nurturing student's interest in STEM, and provides thoughtful, hand on educational programming to expose children to nutrition, hydroponics, and food systems. We are seeking a passionate and reliable Afterschool Program Teacher to join our team. The teacher will lead small groups of elementary students through a lesson and related activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a conducive learning environment.
- Provide individualized support to students with diverse learning needs, including those requiring special education services.
- Foster positive relationships with students and staff to promote a collaborative educational atmosphere.
- Incorporate various teaching strategies, including hands-on activities, group work, and technology integration.
- Maintain a safe and nurturing classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Teach curriculum (elementary or middle school level) at your assigned program site(s) covering the following areas: plants, hydroponics, nutrition, sustainability, water quality, Arduino, computer-aided design (CAD), entrepreneurship, and engineering
- Attend mandatory weekly meetings (15-30 min) with assigned Teaching Coordinator(s) to report updates, discuss lesson plan(s), distribute materials, and practice teaching
- Assist with curriculum and workshop development (optional)
- Commit to at least 1 session/week (2-4 hours/week for sessions, travel, self-prep, and meetings)
- Commit to an additional 2 hours/week of commitment for each additional session taught (e.g., 2 sessions = 4-6 hours/week, 3 sessions = 6-8 hours/week, etc.)
- Commit to at least 1 academic year to Seedling
Qualifications
- Experience working with children in educational settings such as daycare, tutoring, or camp environments is highly desirable.
- Strong skills in classroom management and behavior management strategies.
- Ability to provide first aid if necessary; certification in first aid is an advantage.
- Experience in special education or working with students with diverse needs is beneficial.
- Skills in sports coaching, theater, or other extracurricular activities are welcomed as they enhance student engagement.
