Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.


 

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.


 

DEPARTMENT: Library

HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; Monday - Sunday between 8am to 8pm

LOCATION: 3600 Denali Street, Anchorage



 

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

 

Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Example of Duties

 

 

Pull materials from the Automated Handling bins, sort, and, shelve them in order. Check out and check in library materials to and from patrons. Shift materials as needed. Shelf read to ensure proper order. Assist public in use of automated handling and self-check machines. Register library patrons for library cards. Aid customers with the use of library website and catalog. Direct customers to the location of library materials. Maintain library order, straightening shelves, refilling displays, checking computers and other equipment. Establish and maintain effective relations with coworkers and the public; Treat everyone with honesty, respect, and fairness. Assist in Anchorage Public Library's (APL) diversity and inclusiveness efforts. Ensure excellent customer service and a positive user experience while being an efficient member of the team. Other duties  as assigned.
 

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

 

 

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) months of customer service experience (volunteer or paid)

 

Satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400) at time of hire.
