Position Summary

Woodruff Scout Camp is seeking a confident, safety-focused Motor Boating Director to lead our Watersports Program for Summer 2026. This leadership role oversees daily operations, staff training, safety compliance, and program delivery for motor boating activities including:

Motor Boating in John Boats

Instructional Water Skiing

Wakeboarding

The Motor Boating Director is responsible for creating a fun, structured, and safe learning environment for Scouts while ensuring all activities meet Scouting America safety standards and NCAP requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage daily watersports programming (motor boating, skiing, wakeboarding)

Supervise and train a staff team supporting boating operations and instruction

Ensure safe boat handling practices, participant supervision, and proper equipment use

Conduct daily safety briefings and enforce all risk management standards

Maintain accurate participation records and program schedules

Coordinate with Aquatics leadership and camp administration as needed

Inspect, maintain, and track program equipment (boats, fuel, PFDs, skis, boards, ropes, etc.)

Oversee dock operations, traffic flow, and safe loading/unloading procedures

Respond calmly and professionally to weather changes or emergency situations

Promote a positive, high-energy program culture and strong customer service

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

Must be 21 years old or older

Strong boating experience and comfort operating motorized watercraft

Ability to supervise youth and staff in an active aquatic environment

Must follow Scouting America Youth Protection, Safety, and Risk Management policies

Must hold or obtain First Aid and CPR certification (training available at camp)

Preferred

Experience teaching watersports skills (skiing and/or wakeboarding)

Prior camp leadership or aquatics staff experience

Scouting America National Camp School (NCS) Aquatics training/certification (or willingness to obtain — camp supported)

General Leadership Expectations

As a member of the leadership team, the Motor Boating Director is expected to:

Support campwide operations and staff culture

Participate in flag ceremonies, assemblies, and campwide events

Assist with meal service and leadership duty rotations as needed

Serve as a role model and uphold Scouting America values

Work Environment

This position is based at the waterfront and involves long days outdoors in hot, wet, and changing weather conditions. Staff must be comfortable around boats, fuel handling procedures, physical activity, and managing safety in a dynamic aquatic environment. Housing and meals are provided on site.
