Communications Intern – Stipend Position
Reports to: Communications Manager
Location: Washington, DC (In-office 3 days per week)
Travel: Required for NDA Annual Convention and select meetings
Compensation: Stipend provided - $1,000 monthly
Duration: March 2, 2026 - July 31, 2026
Position Summary
The NDA seeks a creative, proactive, and detail-oriented Communications Intern to support the organization’s national communications strategies. This internship offers hands-on experience in content creation, media outreach, digital communications, branding, and nonprofit messaging. The intern will help elevate the NDA’s voice, strengthen engagement with members and partners, and support communication needs for major national events and programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and edit communications for email campaigns, newsletters, press releases, and website updates.
- Support social media strategy by creating content, drafting captions, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement across platforms.
- Assist with communication needs for the NDA Annual Convention, Health NOW® events, and other national programs.
- Help develop marketing materials such as flyers, event promotions, presentations, signage, and digital assets.
- Conduct research to support messaging, media lists, communications planning, and stakeholder engagement.
- Update communications calendars, tracking sheets, and analytics dashboards.
- Assist with capturing and organizing photos, videos, and event content for marketing use.
- Provide administrative support including data entry, member communications, and file organization.
- Attend events to support onsite communications duties such as live posting, photography support, and media coordination.
- Assist with speaker promotion, exhibitor communications, and partner visibility efforts.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail and storytelling.
- Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X) and basic analytics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace; familiarity with Canva, Constant Contact, or Monday.com is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Professional attitude with flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends during events.
