A Zoo Curator of Reptiles is responsible for the health and welfare of the reptile, amphibian, fish and invertebrate collections at the Los Angeles Zoo; establishes exhibition requirements including food, shelter, special environmental requirements, and care; advises on all transactions concerning the sale or purchase of reptiles and amphibians; establishes breeding requirements; supervises animal keeping personnel; applies sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining a safe and effective work force; fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities; and does related work

 

 

REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)

 

  1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in zoology, biology, or a closely related field; and either
  2. Three years of full-time paid professional zoo experience as an assistant curator, curator, assistant zoo director, or zoo director; or
  3. Two years of full-time paid experience at the level of a Senior Animal Keeper with experience in the exhibition, care, selection, or identification of reptiles.

 

Additional full-time paid experience at the level of Senior Animal Keeper involved in the exhibition, care, selection, or identification of reptiles may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education (30 semester or 45-quarter units are equivalent to one year of education).
